Last Friday, Ronald Walker was handed a sentence of 23 years to life for a second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. Walker's case (#21FE009210) concluded with the conviction following a jury verdict on January 28. The court corroborated allegations that Walker inflicted great bodily injury and was armed with a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

The incident, which dates back to 2021, occurred at a local residence for unhoused seniors. As reported by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Walker became enraged on May 25 and attacked a fellow resident with a machete. Responding officers from the Sacramento Police Department noted evidence including dried blood droplets and a bleach-scented, wet front porch. Walker, found walking away after the assault, was promptly arrested. Unfortunately, at the time of the arrest, the machete used in the attack was not found.

The victim of the attack sustained serious injuries, necessitating surgery. But in an unfortunate turn of events, Walker, after being released on May 27, invited friends over, only to have the evening turn deadly. The following morning, officers were called to the same residence for a reported stabbing. The second victim was discovered unresponsive with a stab wound to the chest. Forensic investigation linked the DNA on one of the knives found in the kitchen sink to the victim, as per the DA's report.

Moreover, the previous assault case saw new light when a machete with the first victim's DNA was retrieved from Walker's backyard. It was revealed that Walker was on active misdemeanor probation for domestic violence at the time these crimes were committed. Principal Criminal Attorney Allison Dunham, from the Homicide Unit, was the prosecutor in charge of this case, which was presided over by the Honorable Maryanne Gilliard. With the sentencing, Walker is now set to serve a considerable time behind bars.
