Sacramento will receive a $1.68 million state grant from the Cannabis Equity Grants Program, managed by the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development. The grant aims to support individuals affected by cannabis criminalization and help them enter the regulated cannabis market, according to the Sacramento City Express.
Sacramento received the fourth-largest grant from a $15 million fund, following Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The city has used previous grants to support the Cannabis Opportunity Reinvestment and Equity program. Lindsay Brown, an administrative officer in the City’s Office of Cannabis Management, said, “This grant provides valuable support for CORE members, offering funding for business operations and technical assistance.” The grant will help with legal issues, regulatory compliance, accounting, taxes, construction, security, marketing, human relations, labor issues, and commercial real estate consultation, as stated by the Sacramento City Express.
Sacramento's Cannabis Opportunity Reinvestment and Equity program, established in 2018, provides training, mentoring, financial, and technical assistance to support entry into the cannabis industry. The city is one of 12 in California to receive state equity funding this year and has partnered with Launch Industries to expand technical assistance and mentorship for Cannabis Opportunity Reinvestment and Equity participants. Additional initiatives include a pilot program for social consumption and ongoing ordinance and zoning reviews.
