
The City of San Antonio has named its 2024 Veterans of the Year, recognizing seven individuals nominated by the community for their support of fellow veterans and contributions to the city. The honorees were chosen for their dedication to service both in uniform and in the community, according to the City of San Antonio.
San Antonio has named this year's Military City USA® honorees, representing various districts. The selectees are Sgt. Arland Schnacker II from District 1, Lt. Col. Jerry W. Cheatom (Ret.) from District 2, Sgt. Tony Fuentes from District 3, Command Master Chief Petty Officer Steven Viola (Ret.) from District 7, Pfc. Kimberly Davis from District 8, Col. Arthur Downey from District 9, and 1st Sgt. Monica Morris (Ret.) from District 10. The Veterans Advisory Commission and the Military and Veteran Affairs Department selected the honorees, as reported by the City of San Antonio.
San Antonio will honor veterans at a ceremony on March 17 at the Concourse Level of City Tower, held alongside the Military Transformation Task Force meeting. Military and Veteran Affairs Department Director Maj. Gen. Juan Ayala (USMC, Ret) stated, "San Antonio is proud to honor these outstanding veterans for their dedication to service—both in uniform and in our community." The Veterans Affairs Commission advises city leadership on issues affecting active service members, veterans, and their families, as stated by the City of San Antonio.
