The San Diego area is gearing up for a warm start to the week, with temperatures set to climb several notches above average starting today and peaking on Monday. According to a recent report by the National Weather Service San Diego, coastal regions today will see highs ranging from 64 degrees to 73 degrees, while folks in the inland valleys could experience temperatures as warm as 83 degrees.
As for tomorrow, expect conditions to get even hotter. The high desert areas can anticipate temperatures hitting between 80 degrees and 86 degrees, while the low desert could swelter under highs of 91 degrees to 97 degrees. Those venturing into the coastal areas can expect comparatively cooler conditions with a range of 70 degrees to 80 degrees. "Monday will be the warmest day, with high temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above average away from the immediate coast," the National Weather Service San Diego outlined in a forecast discussion.
After peaking on Monday, the temperature trend is expected to lean toward cooler for the latter half of the week, starting Wednesday. This change is due to "stronger onshore flow and a deeper marine layer," which will likely bring cloudier conditions and possibly some gusty westerly winds in certain areas like mountains and deserts, particularly from Thursday through Friday, as per the National Weather Service. Gusty westerly winds are expected on Thursday and Friday, and local gusts could reach speeds of 45-55 mph in some regions.
Looking ahead to the weekend, while forecasters note lower confidence due to diverging model solutions, it's likely that San Diegans will experience cloudy and cooler conditions. "A percentage of ensemble members are showing a chance for precipitation late Sunday so this bears watching," reported the National Weather Service San Diego. For mariners, the good news is that no hazardous marine conditions are expected through Thursday.
