In the quiet town of Jacumba, what seemed like a scene from an action movie unfolded in a more sinister reality yesterday, as the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail, alongside deputies of the Sheriff's Rural Enforcement, unveiled an arsenal of weapons, explosives, and booby traps at a local residence. The search warrant, executed at a property located in the 42000 block of Old Highway 80, stemmed from an ongoing investigation into an assault that occurred on February 22, as reported by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
The early morning raid found suspect Ross Warren, aged 40, going to great, yet ultimately futile lengths to avoid apprehension by concealing himself inside a wall. Discovered alongside Warren were a firearm, a pellet gun, and an imitation firearm lying in wait as if they were some sinister houseguests. The deputies' search continued to bear forbidden fruit, as they encountered multiple explosives and improvised booby traps strategically placed around the property's perimeter.
San Diego County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit was quickly called for reinforcement and further investigation. Further scrutinizing the home revealed more alarming items: additional firearms, pellet guns, imitation firearms, ammunition, and explosive devices–not just tools, but evidence tangibly linked to the assault case that brought law enforcement to Warren's doorsteps in the first place.
As a result of the discovery, Warren was arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail. A list of charges trailing his name: assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, possession/deployment of booby traps, and multiple counts of possessing/manufacturing destructive devices, the Sheriff's Office detailed.
The incident also ensnared Brenda Beltran, Warren's live-in girlfriend. Arrested for obstructing/delaying a peace officer.
