In the wake of the devastating January wildfires that swept through Los Angeles, leaving a trail of destruction and loss, the San Diego arts community is stepping up. The Union Hall Gallery in downtown San Diego announced an upcoming Fine Art and Craft Benefit Sale slated for the first two weeks of April, solely aiming to support LA artists who've borne the brunt of the calamity. The sale, reported by FOX5 San Diego, is not just a fundraiser but a testament to the solidarity found within the creative community.
Mark your calendars for April 4-6 and April 11-13, which will witness Union Hall Gallery transforming into a bustling art marketplace that features works from over 160 artists, including notable names such as Italo Scanga, James Hubbell, and emerging talents who've found creative solace within the university walls or the intricate world of textiles. Found on a social media post by the gallery, the sale offers pieces ranging from budget-friendly $10 art to investment-worthy $5,000 masterpieces. As per FOX5 San Diego, despite its role in hosting hundreds of artworks, the Union Hall Gallery stated that the collection of art "spanning abstract to realism – surrealism, impressionism, expressionism, fauvism, whimsy, plein-air, ceramics, glass, metalwork, fiber arts, and beyond."
Fully committed to the cause, 100% of the proceeds from the sale will funnel directly into the "Grief and Hope: LA Art World Fire Relief Fund," a GoFundMe campaign established to aid those artistically affected by the fires. The gallery's fervent aim is to shed light on the plight of their Los Angeles peers while generating financial support that enables them to rebuild and continue their craft, highlighted by the Union Hall Gallery's Facebook post.
