The San Francisco Police Department's Defend Against Retail Theft (DART) team has recently placed handcuffs on a group of individuals accused of extensive shoplifting. One adult and several juveniles have found themselves entangled in the law's grip following an investigation by the department's Organized Retail Crime (ORC) Task Force. As reported by the San Francisco Police Department, these suspects have been connected to a series of retail thefts.
Last Monday, the ORC Task Force swiftly apprehended 44-year-old Harry Wong. He was alleged to have spearheaded multiple retail thefts, crimes committed from May through October of the year prior. The investigation revealed that Wong, alongside accomplices including minors, sought to surreptitiously spirit away more than $6,500 worth of goods from various retail establishments.
Wong's alleged criminal activities span back to May 14, 2024, when he and two juveniles were suspected of filching more than $1,100 worth of merchandise from a business located within the hustle and bustle of the 300 block of Post Street. October proved even more eventful for Wong and his unnamed partners in crime. They were accused of ransacking a store on San Bruno Avenue to the tune of over $4,500 worth of merchandise, and a week later, engaging in a similar grab-and-dash at a business on Ocean Avenue, escaping with goods valued at upwards of $1,200.
The San Francisco County Jail now lists Wong as an inmate, facing charges including three counts each of commercial burglary, grand theft, organized retail theft, and contributing to the delinquency of minors. The juvenile involved was also taken into custody and is under the watchful eye of the Juvenile Justice Center. Authorities such as Child Protective Services and the Juvenile Probation Department have been duly alerted to these developments. Though arrests have been made, the department encourages the public to boldly come forward with any information that might further support their ongoing investigations.
The San Francisco Police Department remains dedicated to staunching the tide of retail theft, which threatens the livelihoods of business owners and disrupts our community peace.
