Multnomah County's Board of County Commissioners has announced an initiative to hold Proclamation Wednesdays starting March 19, with subsequent events on the first Wednesday of every month. This change is an effort to recognize and honor community initiatives, individuals, and various causes better with dedicated time rather than squeezing them into the regular Thursday agendas.

According to Multnomah County's news release, this move is intended to improve the public experience by creating a more focused environment for each proclamation. The shift is also a logistical maneuver, extracting proclamations from the often-crowded Thursday board meetings typically bogged down with regular County business.

The inaugural Proclamation Wednesday will highlight several causes, including Women's History Month, Abortion Provider Appreciation Day, Procurement Month, and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month for March 2025. These recognitions aim to educate and celebrate the various facets of our diverse community.

The signings will be open to the public at the Multnomah Building's boardroom and are geared toward inclusion, with wheelchair accessibility and the provision of assisted listening devices upon request. In addition to in-person attendance, the Board of Commissioners will offer virtual options to watch or listen through live streaming on their YouTube channel, with subsequent videos available for those who cannot make the live event.
