Yesterday, a family-owned liquor store named Hype Liquors became the latest victim in a string of break-ins targeting San Jose businesses. In an incident captured by surveillance footage, thieves used a vehicle to forcefully tear the storefront doors from their hinges at around 5 a.m., as reported by KRON4. The video went on to show at least three masked individuals hastily loading a cart with stolen goods and escaping.

The theft at Hype Liquors, located in the southwestern part of the city at Stokes Street and Bascom Avenue, has left the small business with a significant financial blow. "We’re a small business, just trying to survive—and something like this hurts more than people realize," lamented the owners in a Hype Liquors' social media post. Co-owner Gourav Singh revealed to NBC Bay Area that merchandise worth approximately $20,000 to $30,000 was stolen, with top-shelf spirits being the primary target.

These recent events are a harsh repetition of misfortune for Singh and his father, who have jointly owned and operated the store for four years. Singh described the emotional toll of the crime, especially given his mother's dedicated efforts to support the business while battling cancer, "She sacrificed a lot to build this business, she would be here," Singh told NBC Bay Area.
