Sandy Springs residents who have ever wanted to influence the look and feel of their city's commercial areas are about to have their moment. The City of Sandy Springs is asking for community input on new design guidelines intended to help shape future development. These guidelines aim to complement the city's development code and help maintain a distinct local character, as described in an announcement made public today.
The platform to voice opinions will be a public open house on March 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., where residents can drop in to learn and openly discuss the draft guidelines. Hosted at Sandy Springs City Hall, the event offers a chance for individuals to quickly stop by, review the materials, and provide feedback. This informal setting intends to facilitate interaction directly with members of the design guidelines team and ask any questions that may arise.
According to the City's announcement, the purpose of these design guidelines is to address diverse elements such as building features, sites, landscaping, and streetscapes. The goal is to ensure that these elements blend in seamlessly with the existing cityscape and to promote development that aligns with the City's adopted planning documents.
Specifically, the guidelines will focus on six primary commercial and mixed-use areas of Sandy Springs, with neighborhoods like Greater City Springs and Central Perimeter on the list. Display materials about the guidelines process and an online survey will be posted on the City's website starting March 13, set to remain open until the end of the month. This will give residents who cannot make it to the open house an opportunity to still provide their input.
