Chaos struck Petaluma over the weekend when a DUI suspect fled the scene of a hit-and-run collision. Petaluma Police Department reported that they, alongside the Petaluma Fire Department, were dispatched last Saturday morning to West Payran Street and Graylawn Avenue following reports of a traffic crash.
The emergency responders found one of the drivers in need of medical care trapped in his vehicle, while the other had vanished. The officers' investigations, along with tip-offs from watchful onlookers, led to the detention of Sonny Ocop, a 31-year-old from Santa Rosa. Witnesses recognized Ocop as the driver responsible for the havoc, as per the Petaluma Police Department. The man's vehicle was found in the driveway of a residence.
The incident culminated with Ocop's arrest under the suspicion that his inebriated state was a key player in the morning's anarchy. He was taken into custody, facing charges of DUI, causing injury, hit-and-run, and threatening an officer.
