A cascade of construction materials onto the bustling streets of Boston's Back Bay brought emergency services rushing to the scene when scaffolding from a building project succumbed to gravity and harsh winds, trapping vehicles beneath its broken framework. The incident unfolded at the corner of Beacon and Exeter Streets around 11:00 a.m. this morning, as four levels of scaffolding gave way, sending wood, tarps, and piping sprawling across the asphalt, according to the Boston Fire Department on X.

Investigators haven't pinpointed the cause of the collapse, but weather may have played a role. Boston was experiencing forceful wind gusts at the time, reaching around 50 miles per hour, according to Boston 25 Meteorologist Shiri Spear. As crews worked at the scene of the initial collapse, another large portion of the construction facade—unabated by efforts on the ground or the elements still swirling around—teetered precariously before joining the wreckage already covering the street below, as reported by Boston 25 News.
The aftermath of the collapse led authorities to restrict access to the area for pedestrians and traffic as the emergency response continued. Officials are also evaluating the structural integrity of nearby buildings. It has not yet been confirmed whether there were any casualties or injuries, as emergency crews continue assessing the safety of the vicinity and assisting those affected.
