Scottsdale fire officials are preparing for the upcoming wildfire season as temperatures rise. Valley fire departments are working with residents to clear trees, plants, brush, and debris around homes to create defensible spaces. This effort aims to help firefighters respond more effectively to wildfires, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.

The Scottsdale Fire Department reported at a town hall that there were 72 brushfires in 2024, with seven caused by construction. Fire Marshal Kristi Gagnon stated, "You saw the slide earlier showing 72 brushfires last year in 2024. Seven of those were construction related." Phoenix Fire Captain Rob McDade emphasized the need for quick response, saying, "We like to say we can always turn trucks around, but waiting for them is the position we never want to be in. We’re sending the cavalry," as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. Fire crews are also responding to frequent mountain rescues in Scottsdale’s backcountry, averaging about one per day due to the heat.

Fire officials warn the public to stay cautious as temperatures rise. Capt. Dave Folio of the Scottsdale Fire Department advises hikers to carry a charged phone and hydrate the night before. He shared this guidance with ABC15 as wildfire risks increase. Authorities urge residents and visitors to take precautions to prevent wildfires and stay safe.
