Yesterday morning, a street race in Seattle's Westlake neighborhood ended in a severe head-on collision that sent eight people to the hospital. According to KIRO 7, around 2:10 a.m., an Acura sedan was racing another car going south on Westlake Avenue North when it crossed into the oncoming traffic and collided with a Ford Explorer.
Following the crash, the Seattle Police Department quickly moved to thoroughly investigate the driver of the Acura, aged 22, who is slated to face multiple counts of vehicular assault once he recovers from his own injuries sustained in the accident. This detail was shared by Detective Eric Muñoz of the SPD in a statement obtained by The Seattle Times. Firefighters had to extricate two people who were trapped in the wreckage, and all eight injured parties were transported to Harborview Medical Center with varying degrees of injuries, including three who were reported to be in critical condition.
Further examination revealed that the driver of the Acura was impaired at the time of the crash. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluated both drivers, determining that the driver of the Acura was under the influence, as reported by KOMO News. The young driver now faces the grave legal repercussions of a decision that recklessly endangered lives and culminated in dire consequences for multiple families.
