Residents in Southwest Portland are being cautioned to keep their distance from Bridlemile Creek following a sewage discharge event. City maintenance crews have swiftly responded, installing warning signs in the vicinity of the contamination, specifically downstream of SW Jerald Ct. Fanno Creek is also at risk, with authorities advising people and pets to avoid the area downstream of SW 45th Ave. Local waterways are expected to remain off-limits for the foreseeable future.
While the sewers backed up, bringing more than just water to the creeks, the city has directed the property owner responsible to make the necessary repairs. In a show of caution, the advisory will linger for 48 hours even after the job is done. According to a statement by the City of Portland, the advisory is a yellow light, telling residents not to get too close just yet to the affected waterways.
Updates on the sewage spill will be provided as the situation develops. Repairs are underway, but the timeline for completion remains uncertain.
