A pair from Shelby Township, Michigan, Nicholas Moncivais and Brittany Awadish, are now facing charges for their alleged roles in a string of home invasions specifically targeting Chaldean homes in the Detroit metropolitan area. According to ClickOnDetroit, Moncivais has been charged with two counts of second-degree home invasion and two counts of third-degree home invasion. In comparison, Awadish faces two counts of second-degree and one count of third-degree home invasion.
The investigation quickly escalated following a reported home invasion on February 2. A tip-off from RING cameras and other security footage supplied by residents, paired with social media research, enabled the Shelby Township police to hone in on a suspect description. The suspects chose times when the homeowners were away or at social events to execute their crimes.
Police Chief Robert Shelide issued a stern warning, stating, "To those who choose to break the law in Shelby Township: You are not welcome here! Our officers are dedicated, vigilant, and always ready. If you think you can hide, think again because, in Shelby Township, criminals are not safe. You will find yourself behind bars," a sentiment detailed by CBS News Detroit.
On Tuesday, detectives from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) arrested Moncivais and Awadish. A search warrant executed at their residence turned up several pieces of clothing that further linked them to the home invasions, as reported by Scanner of Warren on social media. Moncivais was given a bond of $500,000 cash/surety, while Awadish's bond was set at $250,000 cash/surety during their arraignment on Wednesday.
The pair is accused of carrying out home invasions across three cities, with three in Shelby Township, one in Sterling Heights, and one in Clinton Township. Awadish was allegedly linked to acting as the getaway driver in these incidents.
