This abrupt cancellation comes just months after Silver Airways filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2024. Despite assurances that operations would continue as usual, the airline's passengers faced the reality of canceled flights. "This decision will allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline, ultimately benefiting you—our valued customers," the airline had stated optimistically in an open letter back in December, a promise that now rings hollow for many, as stated in a report by WESH. As of yet, Silver Airways has not explained this sudden halt in operations.
Travelers like Barbara Duke, who had planned to fly to Pensacola, encountered this disruption first-hand. After arriving at the airport, she found the check-in counter devoid of staff. She was informed she'd have to reroute her trip extensively through Houston, courtesy of Silver Airways' partnership with United Airlines. "I just don’t like how things are working; it just makes me feel uncomfortable," Duke expressed her frustration in an interview obtained by ClickOrlando. She decided to forgo flying altogether and drove to her destination instead.
