In a display of community spirit and friendly rivalry, the St. Bernard Fire Department emerged victorious in a recent tug-of-war contest against the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office. The spirited event took place during the Islenos Fiesta and saw both teams competing in a test of pure physical mettle.
Despite the deputies' best efforts, the firefighters won the trophy, highlighting the camaraderie and mutual support between the two emergency services. For them, the event was more about teamwork than competition. Sheriff James Pohlmann praised his team’s determination and emphasized the importance of their strong partnership with the firefighters, according to the Sheriff's Office website.
The teamwork between these departments goes beyond the competition, reflecting their shared commitment to community safety. While the Sheriff’s team may aim for a rematch, their focus remains on unity—whether in emergencies or community events. "At the end of the day, it’s all about teamwork—whether it’s responding to emergencies or coming together for a little friendly competition," said Pohlmann, emphasizing their mission to keep St. Bernard Parish safe, as noted by the Sheriff's Office website.
