Major Daniel Bostic, the head of the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division, recently took the time to meet with the Kiwanis Club of St. Bernard. In a gesture to foster a deeper understanding between law enforcement and the community, he laid out the roles his division plays in maintaining the security and well-being of St. Bernard Parish.

The Major emphasized the division’s commitment to drug enforcement, alongside providing essential resources to the public school system and actively engaging in community outreach. "We are committed to not only tackling drug-related crime, but also working proactively to educate and protect our youth," Maj. Bostic stated in a narrative sourced from the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office.

Highlighting the innovative collaboration within his team, Maj. Bostic showcased the abilities of the K-9 Unit by introducing "Pit," a certified narcotics detection dog, and his handler, Agent Patrick Clark. They demonstrated Pit's keen ability to swiftly detect drugs, bolstering the department's capacity to combat narcotics trafficking.

Bostic further elaborated on the pivotal roles of School Resource Officers, who not only ensure safety in schools but also strive to build mutually respectful relationships with students. He mentioned the critical presence of these officers in the St. Bernard Parish Public School System, with a particular focus on Chalmette High School and C.F. Rowley Alternative School. Additionally, the Truancy Officer works to consistently reduce absenteeism, while a Liaison Investigator acts as a crucial link between the Sheriff’s Office and the school system.

Maj. Bostic also spoke about the D.A.R.E. Program, which educates parish fifth graders on the dangers of drug use while encouraging them to make responsible choices.
