
A tragic incident unfolded in St. Joseph Township where a 35-year-old woman met a fatal end after her vehicle collided with a telephone pole. The crash occurred on Niles Road near Lincoln Avenue shortly before 9:15 a.m. last Thursday, as reported by WSBT. Authorities discovered the woman from St. Joseph Township unresponsive; she was later pronounced dead on the scene.
Witnesses described to police they saw the vehicle going northbound on Niles Road when it unexpectedly veered left and struck a telephone pole, according to a statement obtained by WWMT. The victim had to be extricated from the wreckage before the pronouncement of her death was made. The St. Joseph Charter Township Police Department has indicated that neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors to this incident.
Efforts following the accident involved multiple agencies including the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, and the St. Joseph Township Fire Department, among others.
