Homer G. Phillips Memorial Hospital in St. Louis has closed after its Board of Directors voluntarily surrendered its hospital license, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The hospital will no longer provide medical services, as per KSDK.
The hospital in North St. Louis, which initially closed temporarily due to a lack of secure blood supply, is now indefinitely closed. The building is named after Homer G. Phillips, an attorney who supported healthcare access for Black St. Louisans. The hospital, established to serve this community, has closed nearly a century after Phillips' death in 1931, as mentioned by STLToday.
The Homer G. Phillips Memorial Hospital in St. Louis has permanently closed. Alderman John Collins-Muhammad stated, "It is disheartening because this part of my ward and further north do need access to healthcare," as reported by First Alert 4. Developer Paul McKee, who owns several properties in the area, is linked to the facility. The state confirmed the closure but noted the hospital could reapply for a license in the future.
