The National Weather Service in Honolulu has recently provided an update on the forecast for the Hawaiian Islands. According to the National Weather Service latest release, we're looking at a weakening low pressure system currently to the west and northwest of the islands, which is expected to continue losing strength over the next day as high pressure builds in from the north. This should usher in more stable weather patterns for the western and central islands, with easterly trade winds picking up from Tuesday afternoon and staying fairly stable through to the end of the week.

The expected shift in weather is due to a high pressure system that's set to pass just north of Hawaii, which should result in a to gradually build stable easterly trade winds. The forecast suggests that trade wind temperature inversions will hover around 5,000 to 7,000 feet for most of the islands from Tuesday into Saturday. The forecast does, however, note the emergence of a "weak wind convergence band" east of the Big Island and East Maui by Wednesday, which could enhance windward showers through Friday morning, as reported by the National Weather Service.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the high pressure ridge to the north of Hawaii is expected to weaken as a shallow cold front approaches from the northwest. This will result in trade winds diminishing Saturday night into Sunday, followed by a shift to lighter southeast wind patterns. The National Weather Service statement indicates this front should move across Kauai and Oahu by early Monday, bringing widespread showers and a change in wind direction.

Aviation is also impacted, as light to moderate trade winds are anticipated to become locally breezy this afternoon and continue into midweek. Clouds and brief showers will favor windward and mauka areas, with some lingering windward clouds causing mountain obscuration over Kauai. As per the marine forecast, easterly winds are expected to strengthen and may necessitate Small Craft Advisories in certain areas as soon as Wednesday morning. A mix of swells will affect north and west-facing shores, while east shore chop is set to pick up by mid-week as easterlies increase, as per the National Weather Service.

As for the seafarers, there are currently no advisories or warnings in effect. However, it's best to stay informed with the National Weather Service Honolulu's updates for any potential changes on the weather and sea conditions that might affect marine interests.
