Miami-Dade County is set to move forward under new guidance with the recent appointment of Stacy Miller as Director of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW). Mayor Daniella Levine Cava made the announcement, with Miller bringing over 30 years of transportation experience to the table. Prior to this appointment, Miller has had a hand in the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), notably as District Six Secretary, where she oversaw the management of major roadways and had been instrumental in the FDOT's contributions to Miami-Dade's SMART Program, which seeks to improve public transit infrastructure.

"I am thrilled to welcome Stacy Miller to Miami-Dade County," said Mayor Levine Cava, according to a press release by Miami-Dade County. She continued to explain her belief in Miller's capability to "accelerate critical transit and public works projects," supporting a wide-reaching $6.4 billion capital program. The expectation is to significantly enhance transport connectivity, promoting access to opportunities throughout the county's diverse localities.

Miller's tenure in transportation began in 1991, cutting her teeth as a Professional Engineer Trainee, and steadily progressing through increasingly pivotal leadership roles. She has the distinction of being both Florida's first Program Management Engineer and having held statewide responsibilities as FDOT's Assistant Secretary of Finance and Administration. She holds a civil engineering degree from the University of Florida, and remains a registered Professional Engineer in the state.

"It is an honor to join Miami-Dade County and continue building the transportation system Miami-Dade residents need and deserve," Miller stated in a release by Miami-Dade County. She is set to take charge of what she describes as one of America's fastest growing transit systems, nurturing it into a transformative mobility force for both residents and visitors. Meanwhile, Josiel Ferrer-Diaz, who filled in as the Department’s Interim Director, is expected to stay on as a Deputy Director alongside Sean Adgerson, who maintains oversight of transit operations.
