A robbery at the Credit Union One branch in Sterling Heights, Michigan, led to a brief lockdown of nearby Warren schools on Thursday morning. The suspect handed a note to a teller, received cash, and fled the scene on 15 Mile Road. It was unclear if the suspect was armed, as reported by CBS News Detroit.

The Sterling Heights Police Department advised a "secure lockdown" after a robbery, though there was no immediate threat to the schools. During the lockdown, doors remained locked while classes continued as usual. The affected schools were Carleton Middle School, Willow Woods Elementary, the Career Prep Center, and Sterling Heights High School. According to Warren Consolidated Schools, the lockdown lasted about an hour, as reported by Warren Consolidated Schools.

According to Warren Consolidated Schools on their Facebook page, Superintendent John C. Bernia stated, “At no time was there an immediate threat to our schools, the secure lockdown was put in place out of an abundance of caution.” The lockdown was lifted after police clearance, and normal school activities resumed. Bernia also said, “I want to thank the Sterling Heights Police Department for their efforts to maintain our safety. In addition, I want to compliment our students and staff for following our established procedures.” Parents were advised to contact their child's school for more information.
