A stabbing incident disrupted the routine of an elementary school in Memphis this Friday morning. According to Action News 5, a student at Hamilton K-8 sustained a non-critical injury and was hospitalized after being stabbed during school hours. The Memphis Police Department made a wounding call from the school at 11:07 a.m., with the Memphis Fire Department later confirming the child's injury.
The student was transported to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, and officials have not yet released the victim's age. The nature of the incident remains unclear, police have detained one person in connection with the stabbing. Further details are expected once the complete report by the MPD is released.
Adding a familial perspective to the case, FOX13 Memphis shared insights from the 10-year-old victim's mother, who stated that her daughter was stabbed in the back with a steak knife by another child. An MSCS School Board member informed FOX13 that the child suspect has been taken into custody by the Memphis Police Department.
Meanwhile, the incident, which took place at Hamilton Elementary School on Wilson Street, has been linked to social media bullying, according to WREG. Memphis Shelby County Schools have indicated they are investigating their security measures in the wake of the attack.
