After months of investigation, the Metropolitan Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect connected to a shooting in Northwest Washington, D.C. on July 25, 2024. Officers responded to a distress call around 1:45 a.m. in the 1400 block of Park Road, where they found an adult woman shot while inside a moving vehicle. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and another woman in the vehicle was injured by shattered glass.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department announcement, on Tuesday, Marquis Carter, 28, from Southeast D.C., was stopped by officers near Southern Avenue and South Capitol Street. He was initially investigated for possession of a controlled substance, which led to the discovery of several outstanding warrants for his arrest. Carter was charged with being a Fugitive from Justice and drug-related offenses. Following further investigation, he was also charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon related to the July 25 shooting.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are still working to piece together the events that led to the shooting. Carter’s arrest occurred during a routine stop for a drug offense, which uncovered his other alleged criminal activities.
