The U.S. Marshals-led Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Michael Sanchez Roman, a 30-year-old man wanted for aggravated murder, in a focused operation that took place earlier today, as per the official press release on their website. This arrest comes after weeks of searching for Roman, who was implicated in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Johndiel Sanchez Rivera on I-480 West, near the Aurora Road exit. This incident occurred on February 1 and subsequently left the community on edge.
Bedford Heights Police Department, which had responded to the initial shooting report, later identified Roman and Michael Gabriel Alvarado, 21, as the individuals involved in the crime, and warrants were promptly issued for their capture, according to the U.S. Marshals announcement. Alvarado was successfully apprehended by the police department on Wednesday, leaving Roman at large until today's developments took place, Roman was ultimately located and detained in Euclid, Ohio.
During the arrest effort, an intense situation unfolded as Roman barricaded himself inside a residence with a 2-year-old child, this standoff required negotiators from the task force to persuade Roman to surrender peacefully, which they achieved without any subsequent injuries or casualties, "The safest option for these fugitives during an arrest is to comply with our officers’ orders and then everyone involved, including the fugitive, our officers and the public will be safe," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott emphasized in the reported statement.
