
Following a coordinated operation between local and federal law enforcement, officials reported the arrest of 20-year-old Janiell Castro. The Southbridge Police Department, alongside the Worcester Police Department Gang Unit & Firearms Unit and the Department of Homeland Security, executed an arrest warrant last Friday. On a social media post from the Southbridge Police Department, where the incident was recounted, Castro was described as "armed and dangerous" before police apprehended him at an apartment on West Street in Southbridge, MA.
During the arrest, made at approximately 4:30 p.m., authorities recovered a firearm, a 30-round magazine, and several live rounds of ammunition. According to the Southbridge Police Department's Facebook post, securing Castro in handcuffs and his arrest occurred without incident. The operation linked Castro to a prior incident in Worcester, resulting in felony firearm charges and an assault with intent to murder charge.
Castro, a resident of 44 Plantation Street apt#2 in Worcester, was subsequently charged on multiple counts. These charges include possession of a loaded firearm without a license to carry, possession of a firearm with two prior violent/drug crimes, unlawful possession of ammunition, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, and possession of a large capacity feeding device. Following the arrest, Castro was transported to Worcester Police Headquarters for processing.
