A domestic violence suspect tragically ended his life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound as police tried to serve him with outstanding warrants in his home on Hays Ridge Lane. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the 33-year-old suspect, Kevin Wells, was wanted on charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, domestic assault, and being a felon in possession of a weapon.
The situation escalated after the victim, who is the mother of Wells' two children, reported to the hospital with severe injuries, including a broken orbital socket. The warrants were issued shortly after her hospital visit, as police learned Wells threatened harm to their children, ages 1 and 3, if she contacted the authorities. The Metro Nashville Police Special Weapons and Tactics officers arrived at Wells' residence to execute the warrants.
Officials stated that upon hearing the calls for him to surrender, Wells appeared at a window, gestured for a moment, but moments later a gunshot was heard. Authorities promptly entered the home to check the welfare of the children and discovered Wells with a gunshot wound in the second-story hallway. The children were found unharmed and were safely removed from the premises.
Domestic violence continues to be a serious issue, and those in need of support can contact resources such the Family Safety Center at 615-880-1100 or the YWCA Hotline at 1-800-334-4628.
