Two suspected gang members were apprehended by Sonoma County deputies following a violent encounter involving machetes at Andy's Park. According to a social media post from the Sonoma Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred yesterday and involved suspects, now identified as Rueben Cabrera and a minor, both believed to be gang affiliates.
The altercation was initially brought to law enforcement's attention by a concerned witness who described suspects wielding machetes and chasing individuals through the park, prompting deputies to converge on the scene. However, before law enforcement could arrive, the suspects escaped in a blue Honda, later intercepted by incoming officers on Moorland Avenue. In the vehicle stop, deputies found two machetes along with red gang-related paraphernalia. Subsequently, they took Cabrera and his underage passenger into custody after linking them to the reported violence.
Charges brought against the individuals include assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. Cabrera, 19, hailing from Santa Rosa, faces these allegations as an adult. He has been processed at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility, where he's presently being held on a bail of $30,000. The 17-year-old involved was cited and released into the custody of a family member.
