
Three hikers found themselves in a tricky spot above the Aiea Loop Trail this past Wednesday. A call to the Honolulu Fire Department at 12:20 p.m. prompted a swift response. According to the official Honolulu Fire Department report, a team was dispatched with five units and 13 personnel. The first responders were on scene by 12:47 p.m., prepping for an aerial rescue.
A group of teens and one person in their 20s got stuck near the summit of the Aiea Loop Trail. The rescue team used Air 1 to reach them. After confirming they were uninjured, the hikers were airlifted to safety by 1:20 p.m. and assessed at the landing zone, as reported by the Honolulu Fire Department.
The Honolulu Fire Department advises hikers to plan carefully and stay within their abilities. After their rescue above the Aiea Loop Trail, these hikers will likely agree, as their journey led them to a helicopter crew instead of the views they expected.
