A Hillsborough County teacher has been taken into custody under allegations of engaging in illegal sexual conduct with a minor. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office disclosed that on June 17, 2024, deputies were dispatched to a reported incident at the Marathon Gas Station located at 1302 North Parsons Avenue, Tampa. The teacher, Vernon White Jr., aged 31 at the time, is accused of carrying out sexual acts with a 17-year-old individual after providing them a ride.
Details from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reveal that the Special Victims Section Detectives took charge of the investigation, during which White admitted to giving the victim a lift, but contested any sexual activity took place. Contradictory to his denial, DNA testing substantiated that a sexual encounter did indeed occur.
Yesterday, following an extensive investigation, deputies arrested White without any resistance. The charges levelled against him include two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and lewd or lascivious touching of a minor aged 16 or 17 by an individual who is 24 years or older. The Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the investigation is still active, and any further details will be released by their Public Affairs Office.
White was in his tenure as an educator at the Idea Hope Charter School since 2021. Despite this incident, it is to be noted that the victim was not connected to the school and White had maintained a clean disciplinary record throughout his employment.
