A tragic incident unfolded on Friday evening in Taylorsville, as reported by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Around 5:40 p.m., a collision between a motorcycle and a car resulted in the death of the motorcyclist and critical injuries to the passenger. The accident took place on North Carolina Highway 16 at Millersville Road. A statement obtained by QC News confirmed that 35-year-old Samuel Jarrett Killian was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his 2007 Harley Davidson. Meanwhile, his passenger was severely injured and airlifted to a nearby hospital.
The driver of the 2007 Audi A4, identified as 18-year-old Lane Neal Tevepaugh, was left unscathed by the crash. Troopers believe Killian, attempting to turn left onto Millersville Road, collided with Tevepaugh's northbound vehicle, according to WBTV's report. The accident investigation disrupted traffic for approximately two hours, during which the road was shut down to allow for the on-scene response.
Authorities have determined that neither speed nor impairment were contributing factors to the collision. As detailed in a press release sent to The Wilkes Record by Master Trooper Christopher M. Casey, their initial findings indicated that such elements did not play a role in the fatal event. Thus, no charges will be brought against the surviving driver. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the inherent vulnerability motorcyclists face when navigating the road alongside larger vehicles.
"The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed as contributing factors," Master Trooper Casey stated, assuring the public that no pernicious elements seemed to mar the clarity of the drivers involved, as reported by The Wilkes Record.
