
A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend in West Philadelphia when a 15-year-old boy lost his life following a shooting on a SEPTA bus. NBC Philadelphia reports that the event occurred just before 1 p.m. yesterday, as the Route 15 trolley, running as a bus, reached near 40th and Girard Ave. According to officials, an altercation amongst a group of five to six youths at the rear of the bus ensued, and when the bus driver stopped and the group exited, a single shot was fired back into the bus, fatally injuring the teenager.
The young victim, who was struck in the chest, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:19 p.m. So far, no arrest have been made as the homicide unit continues its investigation, as per 6ABC. Amidst the sorrow, local citizens have expressed their dismay. "It's sad. It really is, it's sad," SEPTA rider Robert McCray said in a statement obtained by NBC Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Police are rigorously reviewing surveillance footage from the bus and the surrounding vicinity in an effort to pin down the perpetrator responsible for this senseless act of violence. According to FOX29, sources indicate that the suspect was believed to be wearing a mask at the time of the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and the identity of the teenager has not been disclosed to the public.

SEPTA has reiterated that their primary concern is for the safety and security of passengers and employees. A cash reward of $20,000 is currently being offered for information that could lead to an arrest and conviction.
