Starting this Monday, March 24, a major slice of Tejon Street will be off-limits to northbound traffic. The Tejon Street Revitalization Project is kicking off, and it's set to run through late June. As reported by the City of Colorado Springs, the stretch from Colorado Avenue to Pikes Peak Avenue goes full no-go for vehicles heading north.
But life hustles on. Despite the closure on northbound Tejon Street, its southbound sibling remains open for motorists. Take note, there's a $ 1/-hour charge at three nearby City garages. Meanwhile, turns onto northbound Tejon from Colorado are a no, both left and right as per the City of Colorado Springs.
Public transport isn’t immune to the shuffle either. Mountain Metro's ZEB route detours northbound, trimming its stop on Tejon at Colorado, while crews set up shop on Block 1. And marked for March 25, tree removal takes the stage between Colorado Avenue and Kiowa Street. Pedestrians, keep an eye out for the crews and their trucks, as temporary walkways will help you navigate safely past local stores which, by the way, are still open for business.
For those wondering about where to stash the car, the first block of construction is a no-parking zone. But the city’s got your back with garage parking at $1/hour, and it's on the house every Sunday. Some businesses are even tossing in two-hour parking vouchers for City garages, to sweeten the pot for customers. You can hunt down further parking deeds at ColoradoSprings.gov/TejonStParkingIncentives, just so you're not circling like a lost satellite.
Construction is anticipated to jump to Block 2, between Pikes Peak Avenue and Kiowa Street, once Block 1 is done in late June. This project isn't just about a facelift, it’s a bid to ratchet up public safety, ease of access, and hustle for the local businesses. With sights set on wrapping up by year's end, the Tejon Street Revitalization Project is a big play in Colorado Springs' urban playbook.
