The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is set to roll out its proposed guidelines for the 2025-26 hunting and trapping seasons. These outlines will be presented at a forthcoming meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission, scheduled on March 21, at Buffalo Ridge Refuge in Humphreys County, as reported by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Doors open to the public at 9 a.m., welcoming those interested in the deliberations around the conservation and management of the state's wildlife.
As the agency gears up to set the course for the upcoming year, the gathering will feature insights from Joe Benedict, Wildlife and Forestry Chief, alongside Assistant Chiefs Mark McBride and Wally Akins, who spans Game and Habitat Management, respectively. According to an announcement by the TWRA, the Commission will cast its votes on these proposals during its April meeting in Nashville, happening over the 24 and 25.
Recognitions are also part of the agenda. TWRA Wildlife Forester Damon Hollis will be honored with the Joe Kurz Wildlife Manager of the Year Award, a significant accolade reflecting an individual's exemplary contributions to wild turkey conservation and habitat management. In addition, freshly crowned as the Shikar Safari Officer Award laureate, Sumner County Wildlife Officer Montana Michelson will bask in the commendations of his peers.
The confluence will be the inaugural for Chris Devaney, now at the helm of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission as the 2025-26 Chairman, setting the stage for his tenure. He is joined in leadership by Vice Chairman Greg Davenport and Secretary Rhonda Moody, having been elected in the previous session this February, as per TWRA.
