Over 110 undocumented immigrants have been arrested in the latest Texas border operation known as "Colony Ridge". This action forms part of the broader initiative, Operation Lone Star, which brings together the Texas Department of Public Safety, the National Guard, and state government under Governor Greg Abbott’s directive. The multi-agency operation stands firm in its objectives to secure the border and halt the illegal trafficking of drugs, weapons, and humans into Texas, while combating transnational crime, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
According to an official statement released by Office of the Texas Governor, the operation has led to the apprehension of over 531,500 individuals for illegally crossing the border and more than 51,000 criminal arrests. But the numbers tell a deeper story—a narrative of cause and consequence, of actions taken and outcomes intended to rectify what the current Texas administration perceives as the failures of an open border policy.
"Operation Lone Star continues working to undo the damage done by the Biden Administration," the Office of the Texas Governor expressed. The operation implies a direct response to federal policies believed to be too lenient, suggesting that such permissiveness has allowed for a significant influx of contraband and unauthorized crossings. The Texas leadership argues that every person apprehended and every ounce of drugs captured through the state's efforts would have otherwise filtered into Texan communities, and further, into cities and towns across the American landscape.
Texas law enforcement reports seizing over 625 million lethal doses of fentanyl through Operation Lone Star—a staggering figure that, according to the state's claims, underlines the sheer volume and potential impact of the narcotics interdicted. This figure represents enough doses "to kill every man, woman, and child in the United States, Mexico, and Canada combined", an announcement in Office of the Texas Governor related. Whether this projection accurately reflects the reality of the situation or not, it’s a statistic intended to alarm and caution—a number meant to provoke a strong response.
