Christopher Maldonado, 49, was convicted of tampering with a corpse after hiding a missing mother’s body in her car’s trunk. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail and 10 years of probation. The victim’s mother, Georgia Mitchell, responded to the verdict, saying, “I can’t even stress that enough. How? I don’t think justice was served. The outcome, I feel like, was a slap on the wrist,” according to Click2Houston.
Angela Mitchell, a 24-year-old mother, went missing in May 2022 after failing to pick up her infant son. Her cousin tracked her iPhone near Maldonado’s residence, her last known client. Six days later, authorities found her body in the trunk of her car in an advanced state of decomposition. The medical examiner could not determine the cause of death but ruled out natural causes and overdose. Homicide detectives identified her as a sex worker. Her mother, Georgia Mitchell, told KHOU 11, "They just put her in her trunk," and "Threw her away like she was a piece of garbage. My baby is not a piece of garbage."
During the trial, a witness stated that Maldonado paid him $200 to help move Mitchell’s car. Maldonado’s ex-wife also testified that he had been controlling and had previously tried to strangle her, which is part of an open case.
