
A Thousand Oaks neighborhood experienced a jolt on March 11 when an explosion rattled a residence on the 2000 block of Hendrix Avenue, leading to the arrest of one David Kornbluth, a 66-year-old resident. Thousand Oaks Deputies were called to the scene around 3:31 p.m., where they found Kornbluth with minor injuries to his hands after he reportedly set off materials causing the blast, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
Kornbluth was taken to the hospital for treatment before being booked on charges related to possessing explosive devices and materials. The immediate area was searched by authorities due to the potential threat to public safety, discovering additional materials inside Kornbluth's residence believed to be explosive, as detailed by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. After serving a search warrant at the home, detectives seized items consistent with the making of explosives, later ensuring that the home and surrounding area were safe.
Following the investigation, Kornbluth faced a booking at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility with his bail set at $100,000. He was charged with one count of PC 18710 – Possession of a destructive device and PC - 18720 – Possession of a substance or material to create a destructive device, as stated by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Office reminds the community to "remain vigilant in your community and neighborhoods," underscoring the importance of public awareness in such situations. In support of these efforts, Ventura County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and criminal complaint against the person(s) responsible for the explosion.
