Three individuals were arrested following a shooting in Columbia Heights on Thursday afternoon, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed. The incident occurred on the 1000 block of Columbia Road, Northwest, where officers found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting began in an alley at the rear of the 1400 block of Girard Street, Northwest. After a description of the suspects was shared with officers, two individuals were located and connected to the incident. Video footage obtained through the MPD's Real Time Crime Center confirmed their involvement in an armed altercation.
Firearms linked to one suspect and the victim were recovered at the scene. Two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, face multiple charges, including Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Carrying a Pistol without a License. The 17-year-old suspect also faces charges of Unlawful Discarding of a Firearm and Resisting Arrest.
The victim, also a 17-year-old from Southeast, was arrested and charged with Carrying a Pistol without a License and Unlawful Discarding of a Firearm. The arrests were made promptly, but concerns about youth gun violence remain.
