Maryland State Police are piecing together the details of a deadly collision that claimed one life on a Carroll County road this past weekend. The crash involving two vehicles occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, as the State of Maryland reported.
Identified as the victim, Westminster resident Richard Snyder, 78, was rushed to Carroll Hospital following the incident, where his injuries proved fatal. Lydia Hanson, 29, from Baltimore, was also involved in the accident while driving a Volkswagen passenger car. After colliding head-on with Snyder's Chevrolet truck, for reasons that are still unclear, Hansen was airlifted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment. Flown by a Maryland State Police Helicopter, her current situation remains under medical evaluation.
The incident occurred on Maryland Route 97, also known as Old Washington Road, north where it intersects with Maryland Route 26, Liberty Road. Responding to reports of the head-on crash, troopers from the Westminster Barrack were promptly on the scene at approximately 2:07 p.m. Sunday. Traffic was reportedly disrupted on Maryland Route 97, which remained closed for over two hours while on-site investigations were conducted.
