A Wyoming neighborhood was rocked by a house fire on Oak Valley Court SW on Thursday night, leaving a residence significantly damaged and resulting in the death of multiple pets, as reported by local news outlets. According to the WZZM13, Wyoming Fire Investigator Brad Dornbos said the fire began shortly after 10 p.m., with neighbors quickly alerting authorities.
The intensity of the blaze required firefighters to rapidly engage and try to fully douse the flames, a process that took between 20 to 30 minutes. Despite their efforts, the house sustained substantial destruction. "The fire had already spread rapidly throughout the house causing significant damage inside," firefighters explained, as noted by a WWMT report. While all human occupants managed to escape unharmed, officials later clarified that minor injuries occurred, which were treated on-site.
The incident saw a swift response from multiple agencies including Wyoming and Grandville Police Departments, American Medical Response, and utilities companies like DTE and Consumers Energy. Assisting with the aftermath, the American Red Cross provided immediate aid to those displaced by the fire, while the John Grace Board Up company was also acknowledged for their support.
While initial reports suggested no serious injuries, further information confirmed the loss of "multiple" pets in the fire. "The fire department said “multiple” pets were killed, through it did not provide specifics," according to WOODTV8. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, though it has been reported that it began within the garage area. The home was confirmed to have working smoke alarms, and the Wyoming Fire Department took the opportunity to remind the community to ensure they have functional alarms, along with emergency escape plans.
