After a heartfelt run, Loaded Dice Brewery in Troy has shuttered its operations, along with its recently taken-over venture Rebuy Brewing Company, formerly Brooks Brewing in Shelby Township. An announcement on social media revealed the difficult decision: "We gave it everything we had, holding on as long as we could, but the current market conditions have made it impossible to continue," as per a post from Loaded Dice Brewery's social media. The brewery opened its doors in 2020 and was noted for its community engagement, including game nights and food truck events, a charm that its patrons will undoubtedly miss.
Adding to the trend of recent closures, Loaded Dice is not the first Michigan brewery to fall to the rising pressure of economic challenges. According to FOX 2 Detroit, other casualties in the craft beer market include Blue Skies Brewery, Wyoming's 3 Gatos Brewery, Brite Eyes Brewing Co. in Kalamazoo, and Arctic Circle Brewing Co. in Chesterfield. Meanwhile, Brew Detroit has moved its taproom operations across the state to Marshall following its acquisition by Benchmark Beverage Co., indicating a shift in survival strategies within the industry.
The closure comes amidst Loaded Dice's pursuit of expansion; a second location planned for Clawson encountered building issues and, consequently, never opened its doors. The announcement added a poignant but hopeful note: "This isn't goodbye — just see ya later." In their public statement detailed by CBS News Detroit, the company expressed gratitude toward its customers and staff: "We're profoundly grateful for every pint poured, every laugh shared, and every friendship made along the way." As for the brewery's essence, it aimed to embody "the spirit of homebrewing back to craft beer" to provide Oakland County with the taste of fresh beer.
