
An incident in Johnston County has left two people dead in an apparent murder-suicide, reports from local authorities and media suggest. The Johnston County Sheriff's Office confirmed that deputies responded to a residence on Chaney Drive and Cornwallis Road in Garner after receiving a distress call Saturday night, as reported by the WRAL.
Details emerged when a female caller dialed 911 and disconnected suddenly, WRAL reports. The subsequent return call from authorities was answered by a man claiming no need for assistance, meanwhile, a woman's voice could be heard in the background pleading for help. This prompted law enforcement to visit the home.
Upon arrival, the first deputy at the scene reported hearing what was believed to be a gunshot, according to statements obtained by ABC11. The situation escalated, leading to dozens of deputies, including an armored truck, surrounding the home.
The situation culminated when, after obtaining the necessary warrants, deputies entered the home and discovered two individuals deceased from gunshot wounds, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office disclosed. According to CBS17, it appears to be a case of murder-suicide. The identities of the deceased have not been publicly released, pending notification of the next of kin.
