A fatal crash near Chicago's Midway Airport claimed the lives of two individuals and left multiple people injured early Thursday morning. According to ABC 7 Chicago, the incident involved a harrowing collision where a Ford Fusion making a U-turn crashed into a westbound Hyundai Palisade.
The abrupt U-turn took place around 3:25 a.m. in the 5600-block of West 55th Street, Chicago police said, and resulted in the death of the Ford's driver, a 28-year-old man named Edgar Santana, as confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. A passenger in the Fusion, Rocio Sanchez, 31, succumbed to her injuries after being transported to Advocate Christ Hospital in critical condition, as noted by WGN-TV.
The 29-year-old male driver of the Palisade, along with a 20-year-old woman, a 32-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old girl, were also injured in the crash. The 32-year-old woman and the teenager were listed in fair condition, per WGN-TV. However, the state of the 20-year-old woman's injuries remained unclear.
All occupants of the Palisade were transported to hospitals, with the male driver taken in fair condition to Advocate Christ Hospital. Chicago police indicated that the Major Accident Investigation Unit is examining the circumstances surrounding this tragic event; no other injuries have been reported.
