
Early this morning, a collision involving a train and automobile in Worcester County led to the hospitalization of two individuals. According to a report by Boston 25 News, the accident occurred at the railroad crossing on Sterling Street in Clinton just before 6:30 a.m. A CSX train collided with a sedan, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle.
The Clinton Fire Department informed that two passengers from the car were transported to a local hospital, details of which were confirmed when a CSX spokesperson spoke with Boston 25 News. The train in question was a freight service, carrying no passengers at the time of the mishap, and no crew members were reported injured.
In a separate report by 7NEWS, further details emerged as the Clinton Fire Department deployed a drone to locate the train's engine post-collision. The engine was found roughly a half-mile south from the point of impact. Fire officials spotted the train engineer walking toward the crash site from the front of the train, unharmed, amidst the early morning disturbance.
Railroad police have taken up the investigation into the incident. The train was able to resume travel along the tracks, as found by Boston 25 News' crew, while the car's engine hood was completely sheared off in the event. As emergency crews piece together the circumstances that led to this collision, the community waits for clarity on the condition of the hospitalized individuals and any further repercussions of the crash.
