Two men have been apprehended in connection with a fatal shooting in Inglewood, where a resident was killed for reportedly intervening in the theft of a neighbor's catalytic converter. The suspects, identified as Wilver Alberto Rabanales and Jose Christian Saravia Sanchez, were arrested on March 6 at a motel in Cudahy, NBC Los Angeles reported.
The incident took place in the early hours of February 25 and claimed the life of Juan (Johnny) Sanchez as he confronted two individuals attempting to steal a catalytic converter outside his home. The theft and subsequent shooting occurred around 3:22 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Chester Avenue. According to a family representative, Sanchez, who was on his way to work, said "hey, hey" to the thieves before he was shot in the chest. This detail was shared during a FOX 11 interview with his family.
The Inglewood Police Department, through collaborative community efforts, was able to locate the suspected murderers, utilizing security footage and descriptions of a distinctive gold Toyota Camry seen fleeing the scene. This car had tinted windows, a sunroof, and a missing fog light, as CBS News Los Angeles elucidated.
Sanchez is remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, and a recently minted grandfather, who treasured his faith and never missed Sunday mass. "No mean bone in his body, he’d give you the shirt on his back and I mean that in a literal way, strangers," Sanchez's brother-in-law, Carlos Guzman, reflected in a statement obtained by NBC Los Angeles. To assist with funeral and other arising expenses, the Sanchez family started a fundraising page, inviting the community to support in the midst of this tragedy.
