An Uber driver was critically wounded in a shooting incident near Texas Children’s Hospital late Tuesday night, as reported by Click2Houston. The driver, in his early 40s, sustained gunshot wounds to his collarbone and leg upon being attacked on the 7300 block of Main Street around midnight while he was engaged in the process of dropping off a passenger who likewise suffered a minor injury to his thumb after the incident, the ride-hailing driver was able to drive two blocks to the hospital to seek emergency treatment.
A separate account given by ABC13 noted that the driver and passenger heard about five gunshots around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, resulting in the driver's vehicle being struck and the windows shattered with several bullet holes evident upon police investigation, at last check, he remained in critical condition at the hospital.
According to a statement obtained by ABC13, the passenger, upon realizing the dangerous circumstance they had been thrust into, ducked down and was unable to see who had discharged the firearm. The Houston Police Department are now actively engaged in the search for any surveillance video or evidence that might inform their investigation into discovering the identity of the perpetrator and ascertaining a motive for the attack.
"The rounds came through the car, broke glass, ended up striking the driver, who actually got shot. Once that happened, he stopped the car. The individual in the backseat said, 'Let me out.' He immediately got out of the car and the Uber driver drove himself to the Medical Center to get help" Lt. R. Willkens told ABC13. Despite this traumatic experience, authorities have not been able to provide any suspect information, and the investigation into the motive behind the shooting continues.
