On the ninth anniversary of a harrowing encounter that nearly claimed his life, the authorities took to social media to commemorate Major Tion Augustine's survival and continued service. Last Saturday, 2016, at roughly 1:20 pm, Augustine was shot with a 12-gauge slug while responding to a call about a suicidal person.
In their social media post, the Washington County Sheriff's Office stated, "We post this every year because (1) we are so thankful that Major Augustine is still with us today, (2) it’s a reminder to all of us, once again, how dangerous this job really is, and (3) it reminds us how hard this profession is on the families of our law enforcement officers."
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Major Augustine continues to demonstrate an unwavering dedication to his duty and to the citizens he serves despite his injury and the trauma he sustained.
