The Metropolitan Police Department continues its concerted effort to reduce armed violence in Washington D.C., reporting the recovery of 50 firearms in a span of one week. According to the Metropolitan Police Department press release, these recoveries occurred between March 3 and March 10, featuring a mix of patrol officers and specialized units that contribute to the identification and interception of illegal firearm possession in the city.
The Metropolitan Police Department reported several arrests linked to gun recoveries. On March 3, officers seized a 9mm "Ghost Gun" and a Heckler & Koch VP9 handgun. On March 4, a 16-year-old from Northeast D.C. was arrested for firearm offenses, including possession of a "Ghost Gun." Harold Pollard of Waldorf, MD, and Tyjuan Bullock of Southeast, D.C. were also arrested after two Glock handguns were found. In another case, a Glock 23 handgun was seized, leading to the arrest of Alonzo Hinnant from Temple Hills, MD, on firearm and drug charges.
The Metropolitan Police Department is using an intelligence-based approach to stop the spread of illegal firearms and reduce gun violence. Their specialized units are working with patrol officers to focus on areas and people at high risk for gun crimes. The successful recoveries highlight the widespread presence of unregistered and dangerous guns on the streets.
